For those that want a quieter cabin or that sunburn easily, the 4Runner offers a viable competitor and is still more off-roader than many will ever need.
For those that say the roof does not come off, we get it, but competition helps us all.
Yes, this thread is posted in the correct sub-forum "Bronco versus the competition".
The first render takes design cues from the 2022 Land Cruiser.Automotive Engineer and Toyota veteran David Koichi Chao just developed two new images of what the next generation 2023 4Runner could look like. Following the exact same methodologies he used to predict the 2022 Toyota Tundra - which turned out to be extremely accurate - David creates the new renders and provides predictions about the engine, transmission, suspension and features of the new 4Runner.The 2023 4Runner is expected to be revealed about one year from now in the summer of 2022 calendar year, and will be released as 2023 model year 4Runner. It will also be based on the new TNGA-F platform.
Specifically, David created two possible renders with slightly different design characters. Which one do you think seems closer to what the 2023 4Runner will look like?
Please watch until the end as David predicts many elements of the new 4runner such as the engine and powertrain.
Automotive Press is owned and managed by David Koichi Chao, a global expert in the field of automotive evaluation, consulting and strategy. David is known around the world as an authentic specialist of Lean Thinking or Toyota Production System.
The second render takes design cues from the 2022 Tundra.

I owned a new 2002 4Runner for 7 years and LOVED it. My only very tiny gripe was that it could have had a bit more power and a bit better gas mileage. Never had the slightest problem with it and I beat it hard!
If I don't love my Bronco as much as I think I will, I may likely get the new 4Runner.

I mean tbh the LC phase out kind of makes sense, they sell less than 4k per year. Its also $86k.It's going to look like the new Tundra grill - just my guess. They will try to make the grill as big as possible - not what I would like to see. Also, since the Land Cruiser is being phased out of the US market, they will try to keep the 4-Runner, Tundra , and Tacoma all in a similar design language. The video was disappointing in the engine choices he thinks they will use, particularly the hybrid - if it is underpowered for a Highlander, it will be a dog in the 4-Runner. Of course, for me the sticking point will always be the trans - no manual. The 4 cylinder will have the 8 speed Auto and the hybrid will be a CVT.... yuck.
They also sell 1.5x-2x Lexus LX570's per year and that $86k msrp makes more sense from a luxury brand.
Modern Toyota is way too conservative for their own good. See both of their sports cars are joint ventures and mostly just badge engineering with the BRZ/86 and just bodywork with the Supra.

I hope Bronco sales stay strong, the 4Runner has a successful launch, Nissan brings back the Xterra, and the FJ makes a surprise return. It will be good for all of us for this segment to stay strong.
The Wrangler can go to hell though.
